Our son was diagnosed with intellectual disability at the age of two (autism diagnosis came later). When we first got the news we were shocked, dissappointed, and confused. The Doctor also warned us that 90% of couples who receive a diagnosis eventually end the relationship.
We spent the next few months and years navigating through therapies, services, and accepting our new reality as a family. Our son is now 11 years old. Our journey continues, but we are successfully walking through this journey together as a family.
